FORT MYERS, Fla.- Lee County authorities say vandals used gas to create an obscene image on the Fort Myers High School football field, causing nearly $5,000 in damage.

Sometime between the hours of 10 p.m. on Oct. 19 and 8 a.m. on Oct. 20, the vandals gained access to the football field and poured gasoline over a portion of the field, leaving the obscene image behind.

Authorities say the total circumference of the area damaged was roughly 20 by 20 yards. School officials had to quickly re-sod the field, since the crime occurred during football season.

There are no images or video available of the vandalism, officials said.
