Volunteers continue to help tornado victims in need

CAPE CORAL, Fla. – One week after a tornado ripped through her home in Southwest Cape Coral, Kate St. John went out to the Camelot Isles Shopping Center, where the Good Will and volunteers were handing out items to residents still in need.

“I needed some water and a quilt, because our storage room, it’s all glass. Glass is in all our winter clothes and blankets,” said St. John.

Organizer Jill Mullin said it was the second drive since January 9th. 20-30 volunteers came out to help.

“We have bedding. We also have towels and clothing of all sizes,” said Mullin.

Mullin said help for victims like St. John is crucial, as more bad weather is in the forecast for Sunday.

St. John said she’s staying positive.

“Well our roof is completely tarped. We have hurricane shutters up on the broken windows. We’re hoping for the best,” said St. John.

Saturday January 16, volunteers will be handing out items from 11a.m.-2p.m. at Grace Community Center, at 4151 Hancock Bridge Parkway.
