MIAMI (AP) – Police have arrested three people in connection with the kidnapping of a 1-year-old boy.

Local news outlets report that police arrested 56-year-old Rebeca Rodriguez, 33-year-old Juan Pablo Mesa Jr. and Lazara Ortiz on Monday on charges including interfering with custody and filing a false police report.

Lt. Freddy Cruz of the Miami police says Rodriguez and Mesa falsely reported that 29-year-old Leydibet Hernandez – who had lost custody of her son – had snatched the baby from the crib. Police say they were aware that the mother had taken the child and knew she planned to take him to Texas. Authorities also say Ortiz bought bus tickets for Hernandez and her son.

Miami police spokeswoman Frederica Burden says authorities located Hernandez and the child in Laredo, Texas, on Sunday.

Laredo police investigator Joey Baeza says Hernandez has been released from prison.

The child will be taken back to Miami and be put in foster care.
