WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) – Palm Beach International Airport has been closed and evacuated after officials say a suspicious piece of luggage was found.

Palm Beach County sheriff’s spokeswoman Teri Barbera said Friday afternoon that the bomb squad is examining the luggage, which was found near a baggage carousel. She says the airport will remain closed until the luggage is checked and secured.

Palm Beach International has about 100 departures daily from 28 gates. Barbera says arriving flights are being held on the tarmac. Departing flights have been delayed.

Airport spokeswoman Casandra Davis did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
