Infant’s sudden death under investigation in Immokalee

Published: Updated:

IMMOKALEE, Fla.- The sudden death of an infant is under investigation, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office said.

A one-month-old girl was found unconscious Tuesday night with her face discolored at a home on Phyllis Lane, according to detectives.

Firefighters say there was a propane leak in the same area. Detectives have informed the Medical Examiner’s Office about the leak to see if the gas may have played a role in the child’s death.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office reports that the girl’s parents initially took her to an aunt’s home in Immokalee, because the aunt was a nurse. The girl wasn’t breathing, and the aunt began CPR as the family called 911. The girl was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

No further information was immediately available.
