The pick up truck driver, 29-year-old Jerred Daniel Crews of Cape Coral, was transported to Lee Memorial and is in critical condition, according to a nursing supervisor. Deputies said he is expected to survive.

Multiple witnesses on scene say two motorcycles were street racing when one of the motorcycles slammed into his truck. According to deputies, Dennis was driving really fast when Crews was trying to enter Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard from Flint Drive. Dennis struck Crews’ drivers’ door, deputies said.

“I just heard a big collision,” said Tammy Tobler, “and I said ‘somebody hit something’ and then I come out to the front door and I saw his body on the ground out there.”

The other motorcyclist returned to the scene after he became aware of the crash, according to witnesses.

“When he realized what happen, he turned around and he came back to check on him and he took something off of him and he stood around for a minute and then finally he got on his bike and left,” said one witness.

East and westbound lanes on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard reopened shortly before 4:30 p.m. after being shut down for hours.

If there are any witnesses to the crash that have not already spoken with investigators, they are asked to contact Corporal Lenny Gould at 239-477-1636.
