MIAMI (AP) – Eight people involved in a major synthetic drug ring in Miami have been sentenced to terms ranging from 18 months to five years in prison.

The Miami Herald reports a judge sentenced 37-year-old Jorge Ramon Hernandez and seven others on Monday after they pleaded guilty in January to conspiring to traffic drugs.

Hernandez, who authorities say spearheaded the ring, received four years in prison for importing the party drug Molly from Chinese chemical labs.

Prosecutors say Hernandez admitted to importing up to 120 kilograms of Molly through the U.S. mail and laundering more than half a million dollars.

Only one other person, Mario Melton, remains to be sentenced next month. Melton was convicted last month of helping Hernandez import bulk loads of the drug.
