PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. (AP) – Law enforcement authorities say a teenager shot his 15-year-old friend in the head at a home in South Florida.

Pembroke Pines police Capt. Al Xiques says investigators don’t believe the Wednesday afternoon shooting was accidental. But he says they are still trying to find out what led to the shooting.

Authorities say the injured boy was conscious and alert when he was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood. Police took the 16-year-old boy into custody. He was being interviewed by detectives Wednesday evening and could face an attempted manslaughter charge.

The SunSentinel reports no one else was home when the shooting happened.

Police didn’t release the names of the teens.
