PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. (AP) – A 22-year-old South Florida woman faces child neglect charges after police say a toddler fell out of a moving car.

The Miami Herald reports Tina Johnson also faces a tampering charge after she picked the 16-month-old child off the road, put the toddler back in the car and drove away on Tuesday morning.

Pembroke Pines police say the incident happened around 8:30 a.m. when the left rear passenger door opened and the child, who was not in a car seat, fell out.

According to a news release, a witness told police Johnson “loaded the injured child into the car.” Johnson went to a drugstore. The child was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries not thought to be life-threatening.

Johnson remained in jail Wednesday. An attorney wasn’t listed on jail records.
