PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — Ooo, that smell!

Nearby residents described the odor coming from the city’s canals as similar to sewage, rotten eggs and sulfur.

But city officials say it’s a naturally occuring phenomenon that happens because temperatures drop this time of year. The smell should dissipate in no more than a few weeks.
