A 26-year-old man was taken into custody after a lengthy standoff Thursday afternoon on 4th Street Southwest, according a press release from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. Hernan Valentin-Ortiz, of Lehigh Acres, barricaded himself around 1:54 p.m. inside a home on the 4300 block of 4th Street Southwest near Floyd Avenue South, deputies said. “Deputies were able to speak to a victim that had fled the residence. The victim told detectives his roommate had tried to harm himself by overdosing on drugs and that when he intervened, the suspect punched him and threatened him and his mother with a gun,” according to the press release. Armed deputies swarmed the home and the surrounding area for about four hours before Valentin-Ortiz surrendered, he was then taken into custody without injury, deputies said. Valentin-Ortiz refused to speak to detectives. A loaded 12 gauge shotgun, a loaded glock 40 pistol and three loaded magazines were found inside the home, deputies said. Valentin-Ortiz faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, aggravated assault, battery and resisting an officer. He is scheduled to appear in front of a judge Friday afternoon. Bond has not yet been set.
