A woman found dead on a street corner in Miami was identified as a 19-year-old student from Golden Gate Estates in Collier County.

Police responded around 4:30 a.m. Friday to a shots-fired call, and found an unresponsive woman —later identified as 19-year-old Priscilla Torres— who appeared to have sustained gunshot wounds near the intersection of NW 29th Avenue and 12th Street, according to a statement from the Miami Police Department. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Torres was first reported missing by her mother, and a flyer was released Saturday by the Miami Shores Police Department in hopes of identifying her.

Torres —whose family is also from Collier County— was a freshman majoring in exercise and sport science in the College of Nursing and Health Science at Barry University, according to the university.

Barry University took to Facebook to express condolences and sympathies for Torres’ death:

Police say Torres was last seen in a white Nissan Sentra with a Florida tag HZBU86, but it has not been found.

Officials also say they don’t currently have a motive. But friends have come forward saying Torres texted someone that she thought a black BMW was following her.

The circumstances leading up to the shooting were unclear and the investigation is ongoing.
