Former Commander of Lee County American Legion stole thousands out of safe

A former Commander of the Lee County American Legion stole thousands out of a safe, multiple times, according to Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

According to LCSO, William Bullock was arrested after stealing $5,000 as well as Key West express tickets out of the safe in the branch near Fort Myers beach.

Bullock, is the Commander of the American Legion which is a chartered and incorporated by Congress as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness.

When initially questioned on the missing money, Bullock denied knowing anything about it. Bullock then met with detectives at LCSO and provided a sworn statement which was recorded.

After denying speaking on the phone with Fyr Fyter, the detectives told Bullock about the recorded call which detailed him telling security alert there was no need to alarm police about.

Photos from surveillance video from AFA towing and a nearby 7-11, show Bullock and his vehicle, the same vehicle seen at the American Legion, at the gas station just after 4 am.

Following an investigation,detectives found probable cause to believe Bullock committed the theft.

He faces charges of Grand Theft 5K Less than 10K.
