Mayor Henderson injured while riding his bike over the weekend

The mayor of Fort Myers was injured in a bike ride on Sunday, according to his public relations representative.

On Sunday, Mayor Henderson was on his usual afternoon bike ride when his bike caught on a fence and he was thrown off.

In a text to friends and family, his wife Ginny said he was crossing a small narrow sidewalk bridge that goes over a weir along McGregor Boulevard. His right handlebar caught the chain-link fence and threw him down on to his left side, breaking the #5, #6 & #7 ribs, puncturing 20-percent of his lung.

He was taken to Gulfcoast Medical Center and is being treated for his injuries. he was wearing a helmet at the time of the wreck.
