Debra Purcaro was killed in a hit-and-run crash a week ago. This happened along North River Road in Alva. So, this week those close to Purcaro gathered for a memorial bike ride to honor her.

Last Sunday, Deborah Purcaro died doing what she loved, riding her bike. She was struck and killed along North River Road.

A memorial now stands where the crash happened.

Her loved ones had nothing but positive things to say about her at Sunday’s memorial bike ride.

“I love you Deb you’ll be in my heart forever.” “She was such an amazing person.” “That was my person.”

Deborah was a friend, mother and grandmother whose passion was riding her bike.

“One of the most beautiful things we all love about riding is it’s the closest thing to flying.”

The memorial was full of so many who loved her.

Allison Simon is Deborah’s daughter. “Love and peace and we’ve had a great time and reflecting everything she’s given us in life and obviously are very angry,” she said.

“We want answers, but mostly we’re just trying to keep it in our hearts that she was at peace doing what she loved when she left us,” Simon said.

Purcaro was riding along with the Caloosa Bike Club for their annual ride at the time of the hit-and-run. So, this morning they rode once more in memory of Deb to the site of the crash.

Isobel Hitchcock is the president of Caloosa Bike Club. “It’s going to be good for a lot of us because it’s going to be our way to say goodbye,” Hitchcock said.

This was an emotional and unexpected goodbye, especially for her daughter.

“Mom just know we’re going to make you proud and we’re going to make sure son he knows who you are and you’re not alone,” Simon said.

“I’m doing everything you want me to do to make you happy and make sure you rest in peace,” he said.

Those who knew Deb will continue to carry her loving and free spirit with them.

“I know Deb is up there smiling down at us.”

The driver responsible for Debra’s death and injuring her friend is still out there.

Troopers are asking that anyone with information about this crash come forward by calling FHP or Crime Stoppers. There is a $6,000 reward for any tips that lead to an arrest.
