Two men were arrested in Collier County after deputies said they shot at two men following an argument over a debt.

Herbert Lopez, 24, and Alex Martinez, 23, face charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, firing a firearm from a vehicle and firing a firearm in public.

The sheriff’s office responded to the report of a shooting on Pierce Court early Saturday. The victims told deputies they were drinking with the suspects at a restaurant before going to one of the victims’ homes. An argument over a debt of $100 broke out between Martinez and one of the victims.

Martinez and Lopez got into a minivan to leave, deputies said, and as they pulled away, a single shot was fired from the passenger side where Lopez was sitting. The bullet struck the tailgate of a vehicle one of the victims was leaning against, missing him by inches.

Investigators recovered a single shell casing at the scene and found the same kind inside the suspects’ vehicle when they pulled it over at a 7-Eleven on US-41.

Lopez and Martinez remain in the Collier County jail. Neither of the victims was injured.
