Lani Kai The popular Lani Kai resort is being proactive and taking extra security measures as the Fourth of July weekend approaches. The Memorial Day shooting on Fort Myers Beach and a deadly shooting last year prompted the resort to take swift action. Lani Kai is the busiest place on Fort Myers Beach. The hotel has been booked solid for almost a month leading up to the holiday weekend, but sometimes, these large crowds can bring crime onto the beach. Lani Kai Marketing Director Melissa Schneider said the hotel takes money out of their own budget to make sure they always have off-duty Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies on their property for weekends and holidays. “We made sure that we beefed up our security and we made sure we did a lot of other security measures for guests who are coming onto our property for the day during the day. As well as working with the sheriff’s department in hiring the deputies even more often than we have before because safety is key,” Schneider said. Lani Kai will also have all of their security team members working, even after hours to make sure everything is under control.
