Nomi Health began operating a COVID-19 testing site at CenturyLink Sports Complex Thursday, with full operations starting Friday.

Many people went to the sports complex earlier in the pandemic to get tested for COVID-19. As demand went down, the site eventually closed. But that demand is rising once again, so a site has returned.

“CenturyLink is where they were already used to going,” Commissioner Brian Hamman said. “We wanted to make sure that we put it in a place that they were already familiar with.”

Hamman says this will benefit many in the community.

“This is also going to help out business owners and employers and employees who want to know whether they can go to work or not,” Hamman said. “And I believe this will also help out parents who want to know what the status is of their kid who came home with the sniffles or a sore throat from school.”

People we spoke to are happy to see more options.

“For the better, for the better,” Clinton Spears said. “Listen, I’m the type of person who has pre-existing conditions, and I’m all for all this stuff, man.”

Others appreciate the peace of mind sites like this one offer.

“I think that’s a great thing, actually,” Avery Casimir said. “More testing sites, you know, people feel more comfortable.”

PCR and antigen tests will be available at CenturyLink from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Monday to Saturday. The tests will be provided by Nomi Health. The site will now operate as a drive-thru site. Previously it was a Curative-run site.

Testing at CenturyLink, at 14100 Ben C. Pratt/Six Mile-Cypress Parkway, will be available by appointment or as a walk-in.

As an outdoor site, testing is subject to weather.

Additionally, testing will be expanded at the Florida Department of Health in Lee County. Appointments at the FDOH-Lee County will be available on Tuesday. That testing site is a drive-thru. PCR and antigen tests will be available Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The FDOH-Lee clinic is located at 3920 Michigan Ave., Fort Myers, FL 33916. Testing will be by appointment only.

To schedule an appointment at any of the sites, visit Nomi Health.
