Passenger dies, others with serious injuries after crash on Tamiami Trail in Collier County

One person is dead and other people suffered serious injuries after a crash in Collier County. This crash occurred just before 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Florida Highway Patrol says the 59-year-old female driver of a car was heading east on US-41, known as Tamiami Trail, near SR-29. A 52-year-old male was driving another car, and had 3 passengers, and heading west on Tamiami Trail. There was a 47-year-old woman, a 10-year-old girl and a 6-year-old boy in the car with the man.

The woman crossed the center line and collided with the front of the other car.

Both drivers and their passengers were rushed to Lee Memorial Hospital.

A 10-year-old female passenger died at the hospital. Both drivers and both other passengers suffered serious injuries.

It is unknown whether the drivers or passengers were wearing seatbelts.

This crash remains under investigation.

The Florida Highway Patrol no longer releases the names of those involved in crashes, citing Marsy’s Law.
