Noah Kingery and his dad Jake Kingery. (Credit: WINK News) A kid in Cape Coral is recovering from the fight of his life and is getting a big surprise. 5-year-old Noah is finally in remission after a long, two-year battle with leukemia and will be celebrating in style. A fight for his ship and a fight for his life, two fights five-year-old Noah Kingery is determined to win. His parents, Heather and Jake Kingery said, “it was difficult at first, he had a hard time adjusting to all of the doctor visits when they had to access his port, he had difficulty with that, he didn’t want to sit still and often times we had to use sedation for him, it was very difficult on a parent to see.” For the past two years, the Kingery’s have watched Noah battle leukemia. They have felt his pain and coped with theirs every difficult day. The bright spots come when Noah imagines he is a pirate taking on the high seas. “I think he connected well with being a pirate because he always says pirates are brave and we know that that’s what he was. He was brave,” said Heather Kingery. In time, bravery overtook his pain. Noah took his sword to leukemia, and now he’s in remission. The Make-A-Wish Foundation gave him a swashbuckling sensation to celebrate. His very own, modified, pirate ship! “It is an exciting day. Anytime we get to grant a wish, especially for a child, is adorable. It’s a gratifying day for us,” said southern Florida Make-A-Wish CEO Richard Kelly. “I think, in the end, we’re just very grateful that we made it through it, so it’s just tough, yeah, very grateful,” said Jake Kingery. Grateful to be here and grateful to know Noah can take on the high seas for a long time to come. This family’s first adventure on their new ship was to the ice cream shop. Noah’s pirate ship is fully equipped with fishing rod pole holders, a cooler, and a big speaker system. A wish come true.
