A small dog named Skipper was attacked by a dog at Rusty’s Raw Bar and Grill in Cape Coral.

The incident occurred on Feb. 2, according to a report from Lee County Domestic Animal Services.

The owner of the small dog was also injured as she tried to stop Lila, a black and white pit mix.

According to the report, Skipper was on the floor between her owners when Lila charged at him, biting his neck. He sustained severe injuries to his neck and was treated by his veterinarian and survived.

The woman who owns Skipper declined to speak with WINK News about the attack.

Lila was owned by one of the bartenders are Rusty’s but was being looked after by someone else. Lila was in a harness but escaped and charged at Skipper, according to the report.

Lila’s owner said she had attacked another dog and was unpredictable. He said Lila “scared him and (he) wanted to humanely euthanize her.”

It’s unclear from the report if the dog was euthanized.

Laura Webber takes her dog to the Rotary Dog Park almost every day.

She said it’s critical that owners are careful about who their dogs are around.

“Even my little guy who’s only 7 pounds, he can get really snippy sometimes so I try to be really careful about who’s he around and how much reach he has,” Webber said. “It breaks my heart, it’s crushing having to give up your dog but at the same time I think you have to be a really careful dog owner.”

Rusty’s advertises itself as a dog-friendly place. Cape Coral says restaurants that want to allow pooches must have a permit. They are looking into whether Rusty’s has a permit.

No one at Rusty’s wanted to talk to WINK News News about the attack.
