Deputies have arrested a man they say is responsible for a bank robbery at a Wells Fargo in south Fort Myers on Thursday.

Rex Perry Britton is accused of entering the bank, approaching a bank teller and handing them a note demanding money. The teller complied and handed Britton an undisclosed amount of money, deputies said.

The bank robbery happened at Treeline Avenue and Daniels Parkway.

Deputies found Britton after a license plate reader found the vehicle Britton was driving. Britton was taken into custody after briefly resisting, deputies said.

A search of his vehicle was conducted and authorities found “several items of evidentiary value” as well as cocaine.

Britton faces charges of robbery, possession of cocaine and resisting an officer without violence.

This is the second bank robbery at a Wells Fargo in Lee County this week.

Deputies say Daniel Doucette is responsible for a bank robbery on Monday at a Wells Fargo in Bonita Springs. He was arrested on Thursday also after a license plate reader found his vehicle.
