Changes to median on McGregor Boulevard at College Parkway

FILE: McGregor Boulevard is known as the “Avenue of palms”. The two mile stretch of royal palms were planted by Thomas A. Edison in 1901.

There will be changes to a median on a busy Lee County road: A rendering of McGregor Boulevard at College Parkway shows that the median will now stop just after College instead of going all the way to Edinburgh Drive.

There will also be a median opening at North Town and River Drive and an opening with a left-turn lane at the Key West Plaza commercial development. The Florida Department of Transportation made the changes because families and businesses were worried about the median cutting off access.

“We came in knowing that we were going to be evaluating quite a bit; every one of our meetings and hearings, we do absolutely evaluate and consider every single comment that comes our way,” said Adam Rose with FDOT.

Rose says FDOT hopes to have another public meeting in mid-June or July so people can give more feedback. See more details about the plans on the FDOT website.
