Fire crews continued battling the flames at MW Horticulture in south Fort Myers on Tuesday. The fire has been burning at the facility along Old US-41 since Sunday.

On Tuesday, the firefighters began to handle the fire better, but its smoke is still filling the air.

Alexis McLellan is the public information officer for San Carlos Park Fire District. “The fires on the exterior of the pile, we are working with M and W to move those so we can put water on the interior of those piles. So it’s gonna be a process of utilizing MW’s heavy equipment, and our firefighting apparatus to move and access and access the middle of those piles,” said McLellan.

People living in the area can see it, feel it, and smell it, which has some people angry.

“Angry. It (sic) me off,” said Eve Greene, from Fort Myers.

Greene didn’t hold back her thoughts on this fire. She said it happens all the time and blames the owners.

“They did this! They caused this. The way they do business cause this. And somebody has got to shut them down permanently,” said Greene.

“This is scary. This is just negligent. This is just bad. This is dangerous,” Greene said.
