Multiple residents of Charlotte County had their unlocked vehicles burglarized in the area of Deep Creek Boulevard on Friday morning.

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office warned people to remember to lock their vehicles in a Facebook post about the thefts they say spread out to include Encarnacion Street, Aysen Drive, Deep Creek Boulevard and more.

CCSO referred to the thefts as “car-hopping,” in which it says criminals hop from car to car to see what they can find. Leaving a vehicle unlocked makes it easier.

Detectives believe there are possibly four suspects, three of whom were walking, while a small white sedan drove slowly alongside with only the running lights on. Homeowners in the area are asked to review their home surveillance and report any video regarding this incident to CCSO by calling (941) 639-0013.
