Man arrested after teen seriously injured in hit-and-run crash in school crosswalk

Troopers arrested a man on Wednesday as a suspect in a hit-and-run crash at a school crosswalk that seriously injured a 13-year-old girl in Osprey.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, troopers arrested David Ching-Cheng Chang, 65, on suspicion of leaving the scene of a crash that left a teenage bicyclist in serious condition on Tuesday afternoon.

Chang’s dark silver car was driving west on East Bay Street in Osprey approaching a school crosswalk. The girl was riding her bike north within the school crosswalk when the car struck her.

Troopers located and impounded the hit-and-run vehicle owned by Chang at a location in Tampa. The crash remains under criminal investigation.

Chang faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury, leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage and destroying evidence.
