Jasmine Battle, 29, accused of firing shots into a busy crowd in downtown Fort Myers, made her first court appearance on Sunday.

Police said Battle is responsible for the shooting in downtown Fort Myers on Aug. 14 that left one person injured.

The judge ruled that Battle will be held with no bond for now.

The judge said, “The fact that she is on probation when this occurred the fact that she violated probation the fact that she has five failures to appear I am concerned.”

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s website, she has been arrested at least 11 times in the last 10 years.

Battle’s mother said, even though she has a past she has completely cleaned herself up.

The bond for her potential release in the future is set at $150,000 total.

The bond broken down by charge is $25,000 for the possession of a weapon as a convicted felon and for the aggravated use of it, $100,000 for aggravated battery and abuse of a deadly weapon, and $25,000 for firing a weapon into a dwelling building.

This is all after turning herself in for the shooting in downtown Fort Myers that happened one week ago.

“She is just not the person that caused a big scene, she is a victim also,” Battle’s mother said.

Jasmine’s mother spoke at her first appearance Sunday morning.

“She has a 5-year-old son at home. You know, he doesn’t really know what’s going on right now. He keeps saying he misses his mom, he loves his mom, he hasn’t seen her in a week,” Battle’s mother said.

Officer Hues from the Fort Myers Police Department said Battle is a threat to society.

“The victim is still in the hospital and is paralyzed. This happened in a public place with innocent bystanders as clubs were letting out. We feel it to the danger and a threat to the community,” Officer Hues said.

The judge also expressed concerns.

The judge said, “I am going to institute a GPS electronic monitor, and if she is released that way where she’s at to make sure she doesn’t get close to the alleged victim in regards to the case and stays away from where they live.”

Battle’s next court hearing will be on Sept. 12 at 9:30 a.m. for her previous charges.

As for her new charges in the downtown shooting that hearing will be on Sept. 19 at 8:30 a.m.
