Starting Monday, neighbors in more areas of Lee County will only have to take their trash out once a week.

More Lee County neighborhoods, including Captiva, Iona, Whiskey Creek, San Carlos Island and south Fort Myers south of Gladiolus Drive and west of US-41, will now have garbage, recycling and yard waste collected all in the same day.  The Lee County Solid Waste Department believes providing this type of service will improve efficiency, reduce costs and make it less confusing for residents.

“We worked with our contractors to figure out, how can we make things more efficient?” said Doug Whitehead, director of Lee County Solid Waste. “How can we provide better service even though we’re using more trucks? I think the number of hours to trucks being on the road will be dropping. So, it’s just worth it for everybody.”

They ask that you keep your garbage and recycling bins 5 feet apart.

If you are not sure what your new pick-up day is, check this online map or call Lee County Solid Waste at (239) 533-8000.
