Avelo Airlines announced they’re opening a fourth base at the airport this fall.
The new discount carrier flies to just one city from RSW right now.
That will go to five cities in November with the goal of expanding even further.
“All of our flights are nonstop,” said Courtney Goff, Avelo Airlines communications manager. “So you’re not going to have to make a connection; you’re not going to have to worry about you know, if you’re missing your connection, or if weather impacts your connection city.”
Like most start-ups, Avelo is starting small.
On Thursday, the airline will fly from Fort Myers to New Haven, Connecticut.
In November, Avelo will fly to Kalamazoo and Lansing, Michigan, Binghamton, New York and Raleigh, North Carolina.
“We’ve had our eyes on the Fort Myers area for a long time, just waiting and seeing how we can expand as we continue to grow,” Goff said. “You know, we started flying in April of 2021. And we’ve already flown over a million passengers.”
What will flights cost passengers?
“Costs are really low. Right now we’ve just done some introductory fares. Since we’ve added the new routes in the past couple of weeks. We’re looking at as low as $69,” Goff said.
