A teenage pedestrian was hospitalized after being struck by an unknown hit-and-run driver at a Lehigh Acres intersection on Tuesday morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the pickup truck was traveling north on Champion Avenue around 6:40 a.m. The pedestrian, a 15-year-old girl, was standing on the west
grass shoulder of Champion Avenue where it intersects with Banning Street at a bus stop area. The pickup truck veered left, traveled onto the grass shoulder and struck the teenager.

The injured teen was transported to an area hospital with injuries. The driver of the pickup truck drove away after the crash.

A possible hit-and-run vehicle of interest is a 1998 GMC pickup truck bearing the Florida tag “37AXNY.” It should have a missing left-side mirror and damage to the left front headlamp and may have been driven by a man.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the pickup truck or the crash is asked to contact the FHP or Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-8477. The crash remains under investigation.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
