Residents are struggling after a Fort Myers apartment was damaged by Hurricane Ian’s powerful storm surge.

People living at Renaissance Preserve in Fort Myers are struggling to get their lives back to normal. Signs have been placed on some apartment doors saying there is a biological hazard due to mold growing inside.

One woman, who asked not to be named, is still living there despite the mold because she said she has nowhere else to go.

The mother of five said she is unable to go to a shelter because of the health needs of some of her children.

Now, the inside of her home has mold growing along the bottom of the walls and ceiling because of leaks in the building.

Until her home can be cleaned and safe for her children to return to, she has sent them to stay with their grandparents.

WINK News reached out to Renaissance Preserve to see if they had any solutions for the family but have not heard back.

The family says right now, they don’t know what to do.

Residents at the apartment complex are hoping they can come up with a solution for a safe and permanent place to stay.
