The search is on for a driver after an apparent road rage shooting in Cape Coral on Friday night.

Cape Coral police say it happened around 11 p.m. near the intersection of Cultural Park Boulevard and SE 8th Street.

The victim claims the shooter was driving a silver four-door sedan with a Florida license plate with a dark blue background and silver letters.

Police say the victim was driving west on Pine Island Road, nearing the intersection with Cultural Park Boulevard, when the vehicle behind them began flashing its high beams and tailgating them.

The victim said they turned south onto Cultural Park Boulevard, and the car behind continued to follow them and flash its lights at them.

Police said when the two cars stopped at a red light at the intersection of Cultural Park Boulevard and Hancock Bridge Parkway, the victim got out of their car and asked the other driver what the problem was. The other driver asked the victim to get back in the car.

Police say the two continued south on Cultural Park Boulevard when the driver behind the victim pulled up next to them and shot at the victim’s car.

Cape Coral police say the victim follow the other car until losing them on Cultural Park Boulevard.

The victim’s car’s back driver-side window had been shattered, and police found an apparent bullet hole in the rear driver-side door. Police also found shattered glass on the ground near the intersection of Cultural Park Boulevard and SE 8th Street, which was consistent with the story they were told by the victim.

Neighbors nearby say they are worried this happened so close to their homes.

“Here, everything is always OK. Everyone here is good people, very hardworking. Of course, whenever there is delinquency in the neighborhood, everyone gets scared that’s normal. Everyone here is scared whenever there is problems it’s a normal feeling, but because I don’t mess with anyone, no one messes with me,” said a neighbor, translated from Spanish.

If you have any information on the shooting or the suspect’s car, you are asked to call Cape Coral police at (239) 574-3223.
