A pedestrian was hospitalized Friday morning after being struck by a hit-and-run driver while crossing Palm Beach Boulevard in Tice.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an unidentified driver in a silver car (possibly a Chevrolet Impala) with tinted windows and a missing right rear hubcap was traveling west in the left turn lane of Palm Beach Boulevard, approaching Miramar Road around 7:20 a.m. A 53-year-old man from Fort Myers was walking east in the crosswalk at the intersection of Palm Beach Boulevard and Miramar Road.

The possible Chevy drove through the intersection and struck the pedestrian, who sustained serious injuries and was later transported to an area hospital. The driver left the scene of the crash.
