Helping kids in our community get their lives back on track through the discipline of boxing.

On Monday, we told you about a local gym helping at-risk kids in our community for free. Since our story aired, four more students signed up with the program, along with another school. Bringing the total number of kids they’re helping to 144.

On Friday night, a fundraiser was held to help the gym to continue their mission of cooking for the kids, providing mentors, and training them for free.

“What’s important is the kids that we take care of because that’s the future of this country,” said Steve Canton, owner of SJC Boxing Club Inc.

“I struggled with some demons after I got out of the army, and I reverted back to the lord and boxing. And I always tell people those two things saved my life. And Steve was a big part of that and helping,” said James Kerns, who has trained at the gym for 17 years.

WINK News anchor Lois Thome emceed the event on Friday night.

SJC Boxing in Fort Myers is a non-profit gym that has helped train boxing champions and is internationally known.
