A family is mourning their 12-year-old who was hit by a car and killed while crossing an intersection in Lee County on Friday.

12-year-old Lucas Roulston died on Saturday, two days after being hit. WINK News spoke to his father on the phone.

A young life is gone too soon, but even in death, Lucas Roulston gave life to others.

Florida Highway Patrol says on Friday night, around 9:49 p.m., a car hit Lucas. He was critically injured and taken to a hospital. FHP says the vehicle was traveling west on Lee Boulevard, west of Joan Avenue North.

A 22-year-old woman was driving the car with two passengers, both of the passengers were minors.

Lucas was not just any 12-year-old boy. was special. In a post on Facebook, Lucas’ aunt said, “He wasn’t a 12-year-old boy trying to cross the street. He was a non-verbal autistic boy who wandered off as they unfortunately are known to do.”

Per Lucas’ aunt’s Facebook, we know that Lucas’ parents made the incredibly difficult decision to donate his organs, saving others even in his final moments. WINK News reached out to the aunt to learn more but did not get a response.

WINK News did speak to the father of Lucas Roulston via phone, and while he was unable to talk too much about his son as he is still mourning, he hopes to do something in the future to honor the life of his son.
