An Immokalee man was arrested Tuesday night after deputies say he was pulled over with almost 40 grams of fentanyl in his car.

According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, 27-year-old Erik Santana was arrested after a deputy saw him driving a silver Mercedes around South 4th Street and West Main Street in Immokalee around 7:30 p.m.

The deputy recognized Santana from previous law enforcement encounters and knew Santana didn’t have a valid driver’s license. CCSO pulled Santana over and searched his Mercedes, which revealed 38.57 grams of fentanyl packaged for sale in multiple small plastic bags.

According to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, even 2 milligrams of fentanyl is considered a potentially deadly dose.

Santana faces charges of driving without a license and fentanyl trafficking.
