Clewiston High School opened its doors to evacuees looking to escape potential harm from Hurricane Dorian’s approach toward the east Coast of Florida Sunday, Sept.1, 2019.

A bench-clearing brawl led to the indefinite suspension of the Clewiston High School football team. The fight took place during the team’s game October 19 against Inlet Grove in Riviera Beach.

In a joint statement from the Hendry County Superintendent Michael Swindle and the school’s principal, not only is the team on indefinite suspension by the Florida High School Athletic Association pending the outcome of the investigation. But also, the status of the final two regular season games “remains unknown at this time.”

Clewiston is scheduled to play at Avon Park Friday. Then, Clewiston is scheduled to host its homecoming game against Okeechobee Nov. 2. The district said homecoming festivies will go on as scheduled, even if the football team is still suspended.

In that joint statement, Clewiston sent all of the required information to the FHSAA for its review.
