Louisiana’s Congressman Mike Johnson won the majority vote to become the latest GOP nominee for House speaker.

Tuesday night’s third vote confirmed Johnson as the newest nominee. Congressman Byron Donalds hoped to be the first Florida lawmaker and first black man to be House Speaker, but after finishing second place on the first ballot, Johnson gained momentum.

Florida Congressman Mario Diaz Balart said he blames Matt Gaetz for forcing McCarthy out.

The plan is for the Republican members of the House to meet again Wednesday morning privately to see if the person can get the necessary 217 votes to become Speaker of the House.
