Shots were fired at the Coastland Center Shopping Mall in Naples on Sunday around 5 p.m., injuring a teenager.

According to Naples Police Lt. Robert Young, someone called 911 around 5 p.m. and said he was shot and needed help. The person shot turned out to be a 16-year-old male. According to Young, he was shot in the lower leg.

Officers were able to respond and locate the victim. He was med-flighted to Gulf Coast Hospital with injuries determined to be not life-threatening.

Investigators said the teen was with a few other people at the time of the shooting, which occurred near entrance #5 of the mall.

Young couldn’t confirm whether the rest of the mall was on lockdown, but he did know that mall security triggered an alert system throughout the mall once shots were heard.

NPD is still investigating the incident.
