Fire spreads through South Fort Myers church

A fire spread through the Villas Wesleyan Church in south Fort Myers on Tuesday night.

The fire was reported to the South Trail Fire and Rescue at around 8:09 p.m., where the caller reported smoke emanating from the church sanctuary.

The Iona McGregor Fire District assisted with the call, as incoming fire units reported a column of smoke showing and flames visible.

A large portion of the roof and heavy outside smoke and water damage was reported by firefighters.

After the fire was extinguished, fire crews remained on the scene to salvage any remaining materials from the church.

The local and state fire marshal has been called to investigate the cause of the fire.

According to the church via Facebook, all activities and groups are suspended until further notice.

No injuries were reported.
