A man has been arrested for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars in lottery tickets from his Cape Coral employer.

Officers for the Cape Coral Police Department responded to RaceTrac at 3010 Northeast Pine Island Road for a theft on Jan. 3.

According to the Cape Coral Police Department, officers met with the store manager, who said he was reviewing recent transactions from the store due to the short number of transactions.

After watching video footage, the store manager witnessed an employee, 44-year-old Michael Allen Thompson, taking lottery tickets and money from the register on various dates.

The investigation revealed that Thomas allegedly stole an estimated $5,000-$10,000 in lottery tickets.

He also reportedly cashed some of his winning tickets with money from the RaceTrac register.

Thompson was already in custody for unrelated charges.

He is being charged with grand theft of $5,000 or more but less than $10,000 and dealing in stolen property.
