Cape Coral’s Mayor John Gunter spoke about submitting the city’s paperwork before FEMA’s flood insurance guideline deadline.

During a news conference Thursday, Gunter stated that the City of Cape Coral has met the 30-day deadline and has submitted the paperwork for review.

Gutner then stated that through the paperwork process, only 11% of homeowners were noncompliant, not 23%, as FEMA had stated before the review.

The non-compliant homeowners have been made aware of what changes are needed.

The City of Cape Coral will now wait for FEMA to review the documentation.

Following the announcement, Gunter stated that he felt optimistic that Cape Coral would maintain the 25% flood insurance discount.
