The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 58-year-old contractor for failing to do work he was paid a deposit on.

According to the arrest report, the 68-year-old victim said he gave Brian White’s company (Harpers 1980) a deposit of $4,800 to install hurricane shutters.

The victim said he was told the material would arrive in about 13 weeks and the shutters would be installed by January 2024.

After repeated delays the victim said White sent him a text message saying he was terminating the contract and would refund the money.

Fast-forward to May of this year, and the man said he has yet to receive his money back and wanted to press charges.

White was taken into custody Thursday. He faces a charge for taking a payment for permitted work and not completing it.

He was released from the Charlotte County Jail Friday on a $2500 bond.

White is due back in court on July 15.
