The school year is rapidly approaching for kids in Lee, Collier, and Charlotte Counties, so the time to immunize your children is now.

According to Dr. Jen Brull, the President-elect at the American Academy of Family Physicians, depending on the vaccine taken, it can take weeks to form complete protection, meaning the sooner your children receive their shots, the better.

“When school-age kids get their vaccinations on time, and before they go to school, they’re less likely to catch things at school,” said Brull.

If you require help vaccinating your child, The Florida Department of Health in Lee County provides free routine childhood immunizations for infants through age 18.
