A woman has been arrested for DUI after allegedly driving the wrong way on Interstate 75 in Lee County earlier this morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, state troopers arrested 53-year-old Susan Bommarito-Malta on Monday at around 1:30 a.m.

They said Bommarito-Malta was traveling south on the northbound lanes of I-75 at mile marker 138.

Bommarito-Malta has been charged with DUI and remains in custody.

Last year, a 21-year-old woman died after her car burst into flames after going the wrong way on I-75 and crashing into another vehicle, seriously injuring two others.

FHP suspected the woman got onto the off-ramp at Colonial Boulevard while the area was under construction, which drivers think led to the deadly mistake.

Also, in 2023, a Port Charlotte man was seriously injured after a wrong-way driver crashed into him on I-75.
