After the devastation of hurricanes Helene and Milton, residents of Fort Myers Beach are eager to begin making repairs to their property.

The Town of Fort Myers Beach, however, would like to remind residents that working without a permit is illegal. An exception for now, the town will waive residential trade permit fees for drywall from the damages.

Permit fees will be waived until Nov. 13, beginning Tuesday, based on FEMA regulations.

The following do not need a permit:

  • Floor covering such as tile or carpet
  • Minor cabinetry, which does not include any electrical or plumbing fixtures
  • Painting
  • Portable heating or cooling appliances

Although you do not need to pull a permit for these items, you will need to submit a cost backup worksheet for FEMA reimbursement.

FEMA requires that a cost sheet be submitted for all costs associated with any repair or improvement to an existing structure, regardless of the amount.
