The Weather Authority is monitoring Tropical Storm Sara, which is expected to strengthen slightly before dissipation over Central America.

According to the National Hurricane Center’s 4 p.m. Friday advisory, Sara is moving toward the west at 2 mph.

The center of Sara is expected to continue to move close to the northern coast of Honduras through early Saturday before approaching Belize and ultimately moving onshore in Belize during the day on Sunday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph with higher gusts.

A continued slow westward motion is expected over the next day or so, but a west-northwestward motion is forecast to begin by late Saturday.

Around that point, the storm will weaken and likely dissipate, causing Southwest Florida to breathe a sigh of relief as it will no longer threaten our area.

Regarding leftover rotations, an approaching cold front will quickly sweep up the storm remnants that move into the Gulf of Mexico next week.

Due to this, expect rain and storms during the middle of the workweek, starting on Wednesday.

That front will still bring us rain and storms next Wednesday, but those tropical threats will not be an issue.
