Naples votes to remove fluoride from tap water

Published: Updated:

The Naples City Council has voted to remove fluoride from its tap water.

Now the city manager has until January first to put it in motion.

The vote passed 5-2.

Earlier in December, at the first reading of the new proposed ordinance, the vote was closer, with 4-3 in favor of removing fluoride.

The debate in Florida over fluoride isn’t new.

The Florida Surgeon General has called on local municipalities to remove fluoride by the end of the year.

The Florida Dental Association has pushed back, insisting that the mineral used to prevent cavities is not dangerous to people.
