A man who was in custody at the Charlotte County Jail died following an episode stemming from a medical condition.

According to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, on Thursday, 74-year-old Jack Plank succumbed from a medical condition, which was known to CCSO members at the time of his intake on Dec. 6 when he was arrested following a domestic incident.

Plank was treated in-house and at a local hospital multiple times during his short stay. Due to his condition, Plank was housed in the infirmary and checked on at 30-minute intervals.

A corrections deputy discovered Plank on the floor and immediately called for help.

Life-saving measures were attempted by several deputies, jail medical staff and emergency medical services to no avail.

Plank was pronounced dead at the infirmary.

The CCSO major case unit was contacted to investigate and determined that no foul play was suspected.
