A grim reminder of a tragedy that hit Southwest Florida may soon go away.

A jet crashed on Interstate 75 near mile marker 107 that left two pilots dead, three passengers injured and a massive hole in a wall along the interstate.

WINK News pushed for answers on when this might get fixed.

The Florida Department of Transportation said new panels will get installed early in the new year, which means healing for many will follow.

FDOT called the broken barrier a distraction for drivers and a safety concern.

Work has already started, but the busy hurricane season posed challenges for both crews and the manufacturer.

FDOT did not provide a specific date for the start of the project.
